D.W. has been a United States Marine, gold miner and superior court bailiff. The bulk of his working life, however, he served as a police officer, police sergeant, detective and S.W.A.T. team leader out on the pointy end of American law enforcement. Because of this experience he has seen just about everything people can do to one another, good and bad, in the seamy, often hidden side of the human condition.
He taught himself to write by composing crime and investigative reports in serious criminal cases, where vague or imprecise language would provide an opening for a sharp defense attorney.
He lives with Nancy, his wife of forty-seven years, in La Quinta, California.
